What is UNMUTED?

“UNMUTED!” is about finding the courage to bring hidden, overlooked, or misunderstood ideas into focus. In a time when voices can be overshadowed by judgments, trends, and assumptions, this theme invites a wide range of perspectives to be shared and explored.

From science and technology to art, education, identity, and community, TEDxHaymarket Youth is a space for ideas that might otherwise go unheard. Each talk should uncover something that has been muted, by stigma, habit, or assumption, and show what becomes possible once it’s finally given space to be heard. Possible talks can range from topics like breast cancer or eating disorders, to mental health, social media, cultural identity, intergenerational connections, climate innovation, the list goes on! No matter the subject, each idea should “unmuted” a topic to spark awareness, understanding, or change.
